Six Shoes for Six Málaga Must-Do’s

From mediterranean sand to Alcazaba pebbles, from a little outdoor cafe to a poppin’ discoteca; below I have created six different shoes for six different Málaga, Spain locations!

1. Flip-flops◆◆◆La Playa Malagueta

Regardless of the fact that you will look like a total extranjero (foreigner), flip flops are the way to go for the hot Spanish beaches.
The two main beaches I frequented in Málaga were la Malagueta and el Palo. La Malagueta, the cities most popular beach, is located right in the city center. Close to the boardwalk and harbor, la Malagueta is the ideal beach for a lively and adventurous day a la playa! If you’re lucky, bartenders will bring you a freshly made mojito while you’re listening to the waves in the Costa del Sol.

Looking for a more relaxing beach day? Head to el Palo to be greeted by quieter, soft-sand beaches. Feeling bold in the food department? Find one of the many chirinquitos (beachfront bars) to snack on barbecued Espeto de Sardinas… a must try if you visit Málaga.DCIM100GOPRO

2. Sandals◆◆◆Calle Larios

img_4539Shopping day? Sandals were always my go-to when strolling down Calle Larios and venturing in and out of the variety of high-end to affordable shops. Not only are sandals a quick on and off shoe, but they match the daytime fashion of many Malagueños.

I discovered Bershka, a Spanish clothing company, during a trip to Barcelona and fell in love. For anyone looking for classy, unique and good-quality clothes, hit up Bershka in all of Spain’s major cities.

The Bershka in Málaga is right on Calle Larios!

3. Converse/Keds◆◆◆Alcazaba

One of Málaga’s oldest sites, the Alcazaba, was built between 1057 and 1063. You can find the Moorish fortress at the bottom of Gibralfaro Hill, in the center of the city. Today we enjoy the sunset from the 360 degree view at the top of the Alcazaba. However, the view of the skyline and bay was once one of the biggest military defenses for the city.

Sturdy shoes are a must as you stroll through the patios, gardens and pools! Grab your converse and some friends and go back in time for only 2.20 euros.img_4682

4. Sneakers◆◆◆Biking

Feeling the need to work off some of that flan while enjoying the ocean breeze? Choose from a variety of bike-rental shops in the city and hit the beach sidewalks for a relaxing ride.

Sidewalks and palm trees line the sand from Malagueta beach to El Palo beach and beyond. About every two miles, there are exercise parks with waterproof equipment for days of rain or days of shine. Malagueños are known for being active!

5.Platform Sandals◆◆◆El Pimpi

img_4881img_4913 Stability and a height-booster… what better? Opt for platform sandals for drinks and tapas at El Pimpi. Although El Pimpi is one of the more expensive restaurants and bars in Málaga, it is the best location for special occasions. Opened in 1971, El Pimpi resides in an 18th century mansion with  front-row views of the Alcazaba. Eat some jamón iberico (Spanish ham) and drink some vino tinto(red wine) at one of Málaga’s oldest standing bodegas.

6. Boots◆◆◆Plaza de la Merced

2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning, Plaza de la Merced is always popping. Enjoy the outdoor seating for a quick bite to eat before class, or meet up with friends at night before finding a discoteca!

Boots are not only the fashionable choice, but the safest choice for nights out on the cobblestone streets of Málaga. Pair some leather boots with your leather jacket and enjoy the live music and action in Plaza de la Merced!

If you’re up for it, head over to Sala Gold for some late-night music and dancing for only 6 euro. The bouncers will not let you in wearing flip flops and shorts, so make sure you dress your best!
